The most common alternative to intermittent catheterization is an indwelling catheter. Indwelling catheters are catheters that are kept permanently in the bladder, continuously draining out urine into a bag. Associated with these catheters is the discomfort of constantly carrying a fixed catheter, as well as a greater risk of UTI’s, inflammation and urethral damage. If you only suffer from problems of storing urine (incontinence), you may also use pads.
